What if English is our second language?

I think that it is not bad. English is getting more important over the world. In Korea, we learn English since elementary school. But we cannot speak English well. It is because we cram for it and focus on about grammar alone and there is less opportunity to speak English. So, most Koreans are familiar with grammar and listening skill. That is why many Koreans go abroad to learn English especially speaking. Now, studying abroad to use English is common for university students. We cost large sum of money every year for it. What if we allow that English is our second language? We can probably save pretty much money and speak English better than now.
Those who do not understand the importance of English say English is not important to all. Only some people need English. They say that even if someone -sweepers, laborers, plumbers and others like those- could speak English, nothing would be changed to them. Their wages are not increasing and their life styles are also the same as before. If so, why should all people have an ability to speak English?

I think their opinion is not wrong. Actually, I do not have any evidence to reject their opinion. But I think if we can speak English well, we can preserve our history by ourselves. Dokdo is a Korean island. Dokdo has been belonging to Korea since very long time ago. But some crazy Japanese scholars say Dokdo is a Japanese territory . Although Japanese have insisted that Dokdo is Japanese territory, all Koreans do not think so. How about foreigners? Some Japanese scholars have written many treatises on their opinion and published a paper translated to English. But Korean scholars just say only a word not try to inform to world. There is no measure for international society. Most people think that only the information in English is important. Otherwise they do not read. If so, even we assert that Dokdo is a Korean territory. If I were a foreigner, I could probably think that Dokdo is a Japanese territory. That is the first reason that we have to study English.
The second ground is that we can save time to study English. Many Koreans study English in order to get a better job not because they need it. It wastes too many times. I think that if we use English as our second language, we can speak English well, and then we do not need to study English for a long time. It saves many time and we can study other thing instead of English. In case of that, we can improve ourselves more than now. For example we can be more familiar with our major or other skills. It would be better for us.
However many people think that it could exterminate our mother language. But it depends on how to do. If you try to preserve our own language, we can avoid this situation. Also, even now Korean is getting disappeared due to many foreign words like English. But it is due to our indifference not due to English. So, I think that it could not be the reason to object using English as our second language.
Anyway, we all know that we have to study English. Nobody can deny this. As regarding having more opportunity to speak English, we can profit greatly from it. So, I agree with using English as our second language.
